Couple of Hot Wines to Try

Trader Joe's had two new wines that I'm very pleased with, actually, one is thrilling!

First, try the D 2009 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.  Yes, the label is a large black "D" on a white label. This Pinot has an alcohol level of 15.18% but it's not hot in the mouth.  It's very balanced and has several layers of complexity.  I'm getting a few more bottles of this one for my wine cooler.  It's only, yes, I said "only" $14.99 a bottle.  You'll savor every drop, every sip.

Secondly, Trader's has a new Meritage under its own label.  It's one of the Grand Reserve series with the black label. It's a 2009 vintage from Napa.  A blend of 71% Cabernet, 20% Merlot, 4% Cab Franc, 3% Malbec, and 2% Petit Verdot.  The Meritage is a little dryer than the Lost Sonnet that is recommended in a previous blog but it's a hefty wine with good tannic structure and dark fruit once it opens up.  $12.99 a bottle.   Give it a try!
